Trading in the engineering and construction industry for nearly sixty years qualifies this custmer as one of the most experienced suppliers in their sector. During that time they have adapted and expanded; today, they stock over 10,000 products, covering fasteners and fixings, ironmongery, hand and power tools, and building materials.

They had previously displayed their range of fasteners and fixings as loose stock, where customers would pick by hand the items they wanted. However, it was evident that this approach had its flaws. Firstly, it was noticeable how quickly products became mixed up in differing bays; this made their display look unattractive and consequently uninviting for customers. They found themselves routinely having to spend time to ‘make good’, only to see it become untidy again within a short period. Secondly, there was the issue of stock control; it was very time-consuming to have to count out the loose stock; compounding the situation was the fact that the numbers hardly ever added up.

Owlett-Jaton’s Area Sales Manager, Paul Johnstone, put forward a solution to their Profit Centre Manager and Inventory Controller, which they approved. Using Owlett-Jaton’s stock cleansing service, the loose stock was removed, and replaced with a comprehensive range of branded products including Unifix, JCP Fixings, Vortex high-performance woodscrews, and Thunderbolt all-metal anchors. This was all carried out by Owlett-Jaton representatives, who liaised closely with the customer, minimising disruption to day-to-day business. The results were immediate. The branded packaging is striking and much more inviting, and easier for customers to navigate, and find what they want. Stock control is easier and quicker, and more accurate, too.

The outcome is that the customer has witnessed an increase in sales due to the conversion and are pleased with the transformation, and how the shop now looks. They are keen to expand the range even further; in due course, the new range of JRP rivets will be introduced.
